Great Hall, Sydney University

We hosted our annual Creative Cult (Sydney) dinner in The Great Hall at Sydney University on Tuesday September 24. Each year they bring together leading creators and industry disruptors. The evening is about learning, discovery and beginning new conversations.

To help get these conversations started the guest speakers included Megan Moreton, Stylist, and Saskia Havekes from Gradiflora Sydney, who shared their pursuit of beauty, delight and imagination when creating glorious environments.

To marry the magic of the towering ceilings within the Great Hall we felt a little of the void need to be filled with flora, hence the installation of a dozen 3m tall magnificent magnolia trees further enhanced with warm pools of light set in the pots to illuminate the branches and blooms.

High dining tables circled the trees and guests sat on the new Harrison bar stools and velvet Arden benches. The marble top tables glistened with crystal cut glass that twinkled in led candle light amongst coloured glass bowls of deeply hued flowers.

A single full bodied rose was set at each place and tied with a velvet ribbon that had been dipped in one of Saskia’s fragrances. During the course of the evening Saskia invited guests to take the ribbon and tie it around the wrist of the person sitting next to them and to share the top fragrance notes they thought they may detect. This was a lovely way to unite with everyone in the room, it was really touching to watch as people engaged, shared and smiled at one another.

Three striking transparent LED screens were set around the room, holding an image initially of indulgent, luxuriant and splendid coloured blooms. The images later moved to exotic and glamorous destinations around the world. The intensity of the screens was mesmerizing – guests were fascinated with their sleek appearance and were compulsively drawn to hypnotically watching them.

Dinner and speeches were followed by a delicious dessert installation set at the top of the stairs at the far end of The Great Hall. A svelte hub was crated combining the Hugo lounges and Mila ottomans in various shapes and earthly shades and tones.

One more sweet treat and one more glass of wine, a night of new friendships and sharing of stories and creativeness.

Thank you Sydney, see you in 2020!
